Renting a property can be a confusing and complex process, especially if it is your first time.
You’ve took the main step in wanting to move out in the first place and leave your parents home, to find your feet and gain some independence in Residential lettings London.
It can be a very daunting task going solo from mum and dad but sooner or later it has to be done; as a part of growing up in life and moving on.
So here at London lettings agency Benham and Reeves Residential Lettings we have put together a guide that includes some essential information for you to be able to stand on your own two feet and become an official tenant.
Tenancy Deposit Protection (TDP) means that landlords who collect deposits must join a statutory scheme to ensure tenants get their deposit back if they have kept a property in good condition i.e. if the carpet isn’t burnt or the sofa isn’t ripped.
If you disagree how much should be returned it can be mediated by an independent dispute solving service.
An agreed rent must be paid on time and if this is not done landlords may take you to court to have you evicted, so best to get it in on time.
It might be cheaper to get a friend or housemate to move in with you, that being if there is a spare bedroom, to contribute towards the rent and help you out a little. You do have to ask permission from the landlord to do this though beforehand, as it may be breaching your signed agreement which would end in court action.
